WordPress SEO Checklist for Dubai Businesses

The 15-Minute WordPress SEO Checklist That Most Dubai Websites Fail

I audited over forty WordPress websites in Dubai this year. Thirty-four of them were making the same four mistakes. None of these mistakes need a developer to fix. Most take less than five minutes each. Together, they cost those businesses an estimated 40% of their potential organic traffic.

This is not a generic list of everything you could possibly optimise. This is the specific checklist I use when a Dubai business asks me why their site does not show up on Google.

“Most SEO problems on WordPress are not complicated. They are simple things nobody checked. This checklist catches all of them.”

1. Your Site Title Still Says “Home — Just Another WordPress Site”

Open your WordPress dashboard. Go to Settings → General. Look at the Site Title field. If it says anything other than your actual business name, change it now. Every page on your site uses this as the browser tab title. A tab that says “Home” tells Google nothing about your business.

While you are there, check the Tagline field. If it still says “Just another WordPress site,” replace it with a short sentence about what you do. Something like “Business IT Support in Dubai Media City” or “Luxury Real Estate Agency in Downtown Dubai.” This tagline appears in search results when Google cannot find a better description, so make it count.

Time to fix: 60 seconds. If you skip everything else on this list, do this one.

2. Your Permalinks Look Like /?p=123

Go to Settings → Permalinks. Look at what is selected. If “Plain” is checked, every page on your site has a URL like yourdomain.com/?p=123. These URLs mean nothing to Google and they look unprofessional when shared.

Select “Post name” instead. This changes your URLs to yourdomain.com/your-page-title/. One warning: if your site is older and already getting traffic, changing permalinks will break every existing link. Do not change it in that case. But if your site is new or getting very little traffic, change it now before you publish anything else.

Time to fix: 30 seconds.

3. You Never Connected Google Search Console

This is the one that always surprises me. A business spends months and money on SEO, but they never set up the one free tool that tells them if any of it is working.

Google Search Console shows you exactly which searches bring visitors to your site, which pages rank for what, and whether Google can even read your content properly. Without it, you are guessing.

Setup takes ten minutes: go to search.google.com/search-console, add your domain, verify ownership (usually through your domain registrar or by adding a small file to your site), and wait 24 hours for data. The first thing to check after setup is the Coverage report — it shows every page Google tried to index but could not. Fix those first.

Once Search Console is running, the data will tell you what content to write next. If you are not sure which tools help turn that data into articles, see our guide on AI SEO tools for Gulf businesses.

Time to fix: 10 minutes.

4. Your Images Are Slowing Everything to a Crawl

This is the single biggest performance problem on Dubai business websites. Here is what happens: a restaurant takes professional photos for their menu. The images are 8 MB each. They upload them directly to WordPress. Now every visitor to the menu page downloads 40 MB of images on a mobile connection in a Dubai mall with spotty reception. The page takes 12 seconds to load. The visitor leaves.

The fix has two steps. First, resize before uploading. If your content area is 800 pixels wide, resize to 1,600 pixels for retina screens. Never upload a 5,000-pixel photo straight from a camera. Second, install the ShortPixel or Imagify plugin. It compresses every image on your site to WebP format automatically — roughly 30% smaller with no visible quality loss.

Most Dubai business sites I audit see a 15 to 25 point PageSpeed improvement from this fix alone. For the complete speed guide including hosting and caching, learn how to speed up WordPress with five practical fixes.

Time to fix: 20 minutes for an existing site. Two minutes per image going forward.

5. Your Contact Page Is Your Only Call to Action

Almost every Dubai business website has the same problem: one call to action, “Contact Us,” sitting in the navigation menu. That is it. A visitor lands on a blog post called “How much does IT support cost in Dubai.” They read it. They are interested. But the page does not tell them what to do next. So they leave.

Add one relevant call to action to every important page. Not “Contact Us” — something specific. On a pricing page, add “Get a quote for your business →” with a WhatsApp link or short form. On a service page, add “Check availability in your area” with a phone number. On a blog post, add “Want help with this? Talk to us →” with a WhatsApp link.

The businesses that convert best in Dubai make it impossible for an interested visitor not to know what to do next. Many are now adding AI chatbots to their sites specifically to catch this moment — the chatbot says “I can help with pricing, availability, or booking” right when the visitor finishes reading.

Time to fix: 5 minutes per key page.

6. Google Cannot Find You on the Map

When someone in Dubai searches “IT support near Business Bay” or “lawyer near DIFC,” Google shows a map with three businesses — then the normal search results. If your business is not on that map, you do not exist to that person.

Set up your Google Business Profile. Add your exact address, phone number, hours, at least 15 real photos, and a link to your website. Then — and this matters more than anything else — ask every happy client for a review. A Dubai business with 30 reviews and a 4.5 average shows up on the map far more often than one with two reviews and a 5.0 average. Review volume beats review perfection every time.

One crucial detail: your website and your Google Business Profile must match exactly. Same phone number, same address, same business name. If your profile says “Al Noor IT Solutions LLC” and your website says “Al Noor IT,” Google sees two different businesses and trusts neither. The Full Monthly Routine

Do this once a month. It takes 15 minutes:

  1. Open WordPress → Settings → General. Confirm your site title and tagline. (1 minute)
  2. Open Search Console → Coverage. Fix any new errors. (3 minutes)
  3. Run PageSpeed Insights on your homepage. If mobile is below 70, compress your biggest images. (5 minutes)
  4. Check your three most visited pages. Does each one have a relevant call to action? (3 minutes)
  5. Open your Google Business Profile. Reply to any new reviews. Confirm hours and phone number. (3 minutes)

“You do not need to be a developer to make your WordPress site rank. You need to check the basics once a month and actually fix what you find.”
