How to Create a Multilingual WordPress Site for Gulf Audiences

Your Gulf Customers Speak Arabic, English, or Both. Your WordPress Site Must Handle All of Them.

A multilingual WordPress site serves content in multiple languages — showing the Arabic version to Arabic speakers and the English version to English speakers. For Gulf businesses, this is not a luxury feature. It is how you avoid being invisible to the half of your audience that searches in a different language than the one your site currently uses.

“A Gulf business with a single-language WordPress site is invisible to every customer who searches in the other language. That is half your market, gone.”

How to Build a Multilingual WordPress Site

1. Choose a multilingual plugin. WPML is the most powerful and most popular. Polylang is a free alternative with fewer features but solid for basic sites. 2. Structure your URLs. /ar/ for Arabic pages, /en/ for English, or use subdomains (ar.yoursite.com). Choose one structure and stick with it. 3. Translate content properly. Do not use machine translation. Write each language version separately with a native speaker. Machine-translated content reads poorly and does not rank. 4. Set up hreflang tags. These tell Google which version of a page to show to which audience. Without hreflang, Google may show the wrong language and your bounce rate spikes. 5. Translate everything, not just blog posts. Menus, widgets, forms, error messages, email notifications, checkout flow — every element a customer sees must exist in both languages. “A multilingual WordPress site is not twice the work of a single-language site. It is a single site that serves two audiences. Build it properly once, and it works for both.”
