Google Marks Sites Without SSL as ‘Not Secure.’ Your Gulf Customers Notice. Here Is How to Fix It.
An SSL certificate encrypts data between your visitor’s browser and your website. It also adds the padlock icon and “https” to your URL. Without SSL, browsers show a “Not Secure” warning that scares away customers. Google also ranks SSL-enabled sites higher. For Gulf e-commerce and service sites, SSL is non-negotiable.
“SSL is not optional. Google penalises sites without it. Browsers warn visitors about sites without it. And the fix is free — there is no excuse not to have it.”
How to Add SSL
Option 1: Your host provides it. Most managed WordPress hosts and many shared hosts offer free SSL via Let’s Encrypt. Enable it in your hosting dashboard with one click. Option 2: Really Simple SSL plugin. Install the plugin after your host has enabled the SSL certificate. It handles the technical details — redirecting HTTP to HTTPS, fixing mixed content warnings, updating site URLs. Option 3: Cloudflare SSL. Cloudflare’s free plan includes SSL. Set your nameservers to Cloudflare and enable SSL in the Cloudflare dashboard. After installation: Verify the padlock appears on every page. Check for mixed content warnings — images, scripts, or stylesheets still loading over HTTP. The Really Simple SSL plugin handles most of these automatically. Update your site URL in WordPress Settings > General from http:// to https://. Submit your new HTTPS sitemap to Google Search Console.

“SSL is free, takes ten minutes to set up, and directly affects your Google rankings and customer trust. There is no valid reason for a Gulf business site not to have it.”
