Moving from HTTP to HTTPS is essential — Google ranks secure sites higher and browsers warn visitors away from insecure ones. But the migration, if done incorrectly, results in broken pages, missing images, and confused search engines. Here is the process that avoids all of that.

The HTTPS Migration Checklist
1. Install an SSL certificate. Most hosts provide free SSL via Let’s Encrypt. Enable it. 2. Update WordPress settings. Settings > General: change both WordPress Address and Site Address from http:// to https://. 3. Install Really Simple SSL plugin. It automatically detects your SSL certificate, redirects all HTTP traffic to HTTPS, and fixes mixed content warnings — images, scripts, and stylesheets still loading over HTTP. 4. Update internal links. Use Better Search Replace plugin to update all internal links in your database from http:// to https://. Do not manually edit the database — one mistake corrupts it. 5. Update Google Search Console. Add your HTTPS property as a new property. Submit your HTTPS sitemap. Google treats HTTP and HTTPS as separate sites. 6. Update Google Analytics.
