Your Contact Form Submissions Are Not Reaching You Because WordPress Email Is Broken. Here Is How to Fix It.
WordPress sends emails using your server’s built-in mail function — which many hosting providers block, throttle, or mark as spam. The result: contact form notifications that never arrive, password reset emails that disappear, and order confirmations your customers never see. An SMTP plugin routes your WordPress emails through a proper email service, ensuring they actually reach their destination.
“WordPress email is unreliable by default. If you depend on contact form notifications, order confirmations, or any automated email, you need SMTP. One plugin. Fifteen minutes. Permanent fix.”
Setting Up SMTP
1. Install an SMTP plugin. WP Mail SMTP, Post SMTP, or FluentSMTP. All are free and reliable. 2. Choose an email service. Gmail/Google Workspace (free for low volume, 500 emails/day limit). SendGrid, Mailgun, or Amazon SES (free or cheap for higher volumes, 100-62,000 free emails/month). Your hosting provider’s SMTP server (if they offer one). 3. Configure the plugin. Enter your SMTP server, port, and authentication credentials from your email service. Send a test email to confirm it works. 4. Verify all forms. Submit your contact form. Submit your booking form. Submit a test order. Confirm every email notification arrives. This step takes five minutes and catches misconfigurations before customers encounter them. “Your website’s email system should be invisible — it just works. SMTP makes it work reliably, every time, for every form, for every customer.”
