VAT in the UAE and Saudi Arabia Is 5% and 15%. If Your Store Is Charging the Wrong Rate, You Have a Problem.
WooCommerce tax configuration determines how much tax is added to each order, whether prices display inclusive or exclusive of tax, and how tax is reported. For Gulf e-commerce stores, getting tax wrong means either overcharging customers or underpaying tax authorities — both are unacceptable outcomes.
“Tax configuration is not something you can get wrong and fix later. Get it right from day one — your customers and your tax authority both depend on it.”
Gulf Tax Configuration
UAE: VAT at 5%. Prices must display inclusive of tax for consumers. Tax-exempt products: certain healthcare, education, and financial services. Saudi Arabia: VAT at 15%. Same inclusive pricing rule for consumers. Other Gulf countries: Bahrain 10%, Oman 5%, Qatar and Kuwait currently no VAT but legislation is expected. WooCommerce setup: WooCommerce > Settings > Tax. Enable tax rates. Set “Prices entered with tax” to “Yes, I will enter prices inclusive of tax.” Create tax rate rows for each country you sell to. Set the correct rate for each. Use a tax automation plugin like TaxJar or Quaderno if you sell to multiple countries. Display tax clearly at checkout — not buried in fine print. “Tax configuration is not exciting, but it is essential. Spend an hour getting it right and you avoid years of compliance headaches.”
