How to Add a News Section or Blog to an Existing WordPress Website

Your WordPress Site Has Five Pages. Adding a Blog Gives You Unlimited Pages That All Bring Traffic.

An existing WordPress website without a blog is a fixed number of pages competing for a fixed set of keywords. Adding a blog gives you an infinite number of pages, each targeting a different keyword, each bringing a different audience, each working 24/7 to attract customers. Here is how to add one to your existing site.

“Every blog post you publish is a new page on your site that can rank in Google. A site with five service pages has five chances. A site with a blog has unlimited chances.”

Adding a Blog to an Existing Site

WordPress already has blogging built in. You do not need to install anything. Posts are a core WordPress content type — they have just been unused. 1. Create a blog page. Pages > Add New. Title it “Blog” or “Articles.” Leave the content blank. Publish. 2. Set the blog page in settings. Settings > Reading: set “Posts page” to the Blog page you created. Your posts will now appear on this page. 3. Add the blog to your menu. Appearance > Menus: add the Blog page to your navigation. 4. Start writing. Posts > Add New. Write your first article. Assign it to a category. Publish. It now appears on your blog page and in your RSS feed. 5. Customise the display. Your theme controls how the blog page and individual posts look. Check the display, adjust in the Customiser if needed. For professional blog setup, see our WordPress Services page.

“Adding a blog to an existing WordPress site takes five minutes. The traffic it generates takes months — but it compounds forever.”
