The Cleanup Process
1. Delete post revisions. Every time you save a draft, WordPress creates a revision. A 200-post site can have 2,000 or more revisions — most of which serve no purpose after the post is published. Use WP-Optimize to delete them in bulk. 2. Limit future revisions. Add define('WP_POST_REVISIONS', 3); to wp-config.php. WordPress will keep only the last 3 revisions per post. 3. Delete spam and trashed comments. These sit in your database forever unless manually removed. 4. Remove expired transients. Temporary cached data that WordPress often fails to clean up automatically. 5. Delete orphaned metadata. Post meta, comment meta, user meta that no longer has a parent record — left behind by deleted plugins and old content. 6. Optimise database tables.
