The Backup Strategy Every Gulf WordPress Site Needs
1. Daily automatic backups. Your site should be backed up every day without you thinking about it. Use UpdraftPlus or BlogVault — both offer automatic scheduling. 2. Off-site storage. Backups must be stored somewhere other than your web server. If your server fails, on-server backups fail with it. Store backups in Google Drive, Dropbox, Amazon S3, or the backup plugin’s own cloud storage. 3. Full backups, not just the database. Your WordPress site has two parts: files (theme, plugins, uploads, core) and the database (content, settings, users). Both must be backed up. 4. Retention policy. Keep at least 30 days of daily backups. Keep one monthly backup for the last 12 months. Storage is cheap — losing six months of content is expensive. 5. Test your restore process. Once a quarter, restore your latest backup to a staging environment. Confirm the site loads correctly. Confirm all content is present. Confirm forms and e-commerce work. This takes 30 minutes and prevents the disaster of discovering your backups are corrupted exactly when you need them.
