The First Message Your Chatbot Sends Determines Whether the Customer Engages or Ignores. Make It Count.
A chatbot welcome message is the digital equivalent of a friendly greeting when a customer walks into your store. Get it right and the conversation starts naturally. Get it wrong — too pushy, too generic, too robotic — and the customer closes the chat without engaging. Here is how to write welcome messages that work in the Gulf.
“Your chatbot has three seconds to convince the customer to type a response. The welcome message is those three seconds.”
Welcome Message Principles
Be clear about what the chatbot can do. “Hello, welcome to [Business]. I can help with pricing, availability, booking, or any questions you have. What can I help you with today?” Set expectations about being a chatbot. “I am the automated assistant for [Business]. I answer most questions instantly, and I will connect you with a real person if needed.” Offer specific options. “How can I help? Tap one: 📅 Book appointment | 💰 Pricing | 📍 Location | ❓ Other question” Be warm, not robotic. Gulf customers respond to warmth. “Marhaba” for Arabic, a friendly tone, appropriate use of emojis. “A welcome message is not decoration. It is the first moment of the customer experience. Write it as carefully as you would script your best salesperson’s introduction.”
